About the Wood Floors you are asking us to refinish!

|
Some things to think about

|

We consider refinishing hardwood and softwood floors an art form and not a simple sanding job done with big machinery. When the job is not done without much care you know it! But because we take great pride in our work and final product- YOUR FLOORS- you can rest assured they will always be done just right and new center piece of your home.
We at Adirondack Hardwood Floors make every attempt to ensure the entire process of sanding and refinishing causes the client the least amount of inconvenience, both during and after the work effort. Sometimes we run into unexpected delays, but we try to keep our targeted completion date no matter what it takes. We have other clients, just like you, asking us to take the same care and precautions in their homes as you seek from us, and this takes time and diligence. We are truly trying to keep everyone happy, even our families.
DUST During the sanding and refinishing process we are going to create dust. Lots of it! We hope most of it makes into our vacuums and dust bags. However there is residual dust, which is very fine indeed. We will put up plastic sheets to minimize the spread of dust, but WE CANNOT ELIMINATE IT! If you have special health considerations, such as allergies or respiratory problems, please let us know in advance. EVERY JOB IS DIFFERENT and we adjust accordingly.
Points of interest in the process: 1) FUMES- Polyurethane is not odorless, but it is not overly obnoxious either. The drying time of polyurethane is between 4 to 8 hours, depending on the temperature and humidity level. In summer it dries slower than in the winter. If you are having the floor stained at the same time, the fumes from the satin will actually be more overwhelming than the poly! 2) STAINS- We use big machines and gritty sand paper, which usually aid us in getting most every stain out of the wood; however, sometimes, as with urine stains from pets, it is not possible for us to eliminate the unsightly problem. This is when a point at which repairs are necessary. 3) MOLDING- We take every precaution to ensure your wood remains intact. However, it may be necessary to replace some wood because it is already damaged. These situations will be discussed with you before the sanding begins. 4) THE SANDING PROCESS- We sand and buff the floor the first day. We also put down the first coat of poly-This is the sealer coat! IT DOES NOT AFFECT THE FINAL COAT BUT IT IS IMPORTANT! What you will see after this coat dries is swirl marks and dark corners. DO NOT BE ALARMED; this is how we do our work. The swirl marks and corners are scraped out by hand. WE GET ON OUR KNEES not to pray but to hope the client likes the work!
5) REPAIRS- We take pride in our craftsmanship and our ability to recreate lost beauty through a process of weaving new wood in damaged areas of your floors. What we run into from time to time is an unexpected problem with the sublooring surface integrity or structural integrity of the joists. We can not know of all these problems in advance and they don't happen often, but when they do... As Ricky said to Lucy: "we got some talkin' to do!" We have lots of happy clients that will attest to the success of our efforts if you need references.
Conditions effecting you floors Humidity- High humidity will cause the floors to swell, and they will do this sideways so you will never know it is expanding. If there is no room for the floor to expand you will get cupping between the boards. Water and soaps- Try to avoid use of water and cleaning solvents. They hurt the finish and the wood. YOU WILL EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS AND IT WILL NOT BE THE FAULT OF THE “FLOOR GUY!”
ENJOY YOUR FLOORS- THEY ARE A PRODUCT OF NATURE AND NATURAL BEAUTY- WE just WORK WITH WHAT WE ARE GIVEN AND TRY AND MAKE THEM SHINE FOR YOU!
Standing by our work If you have problems with you floor’s finish we will make every effort to correct the missed or imperfect area. We are always available for consultation.
