What is Chinese Medicine?

WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?

Chinese Medicine is a compete healing system driven by a holistic philosophy.  It has been practiced for countless generations.  Its sheer longevity as a science and a medical system is a testament to its efficacy.  At its most simple and profound Chinese Medicine seeks to harmonize the mind, body and spirit so that individuals may experience optimal health.  Wellness is cultivated harmoniously through diet, exercise and proper health maintenance practices.  Chinese Medicine is like a tree.  There are five branches to the tree of Chinese Medicine:  Acupuncture, herbal medicine, medical massage, nutrition/food therapy and qi gong/exercise therapy.

HOW IT WORKS
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) views the vital substances and functions of the body as a continuum consisting of two polar opposites that may be regarded as "matter" and "energy". Acupuncture's focus is to regulate the flow of energy or "Qi" within the material channels and organs of the body.

The Chinese medical system seeks to rebalance the body's energetic functioning by tapping into the flow of vital energy and restoring its ability to flow freely within its internal pathways. In this way health is maintained. Acupuncture works to remove energy blockages, strengthens the body's protective Qi and lessens the effects of external influences that cause the body to weaken.

ACUPUNCTURE FEELING

Prior to their first treatment, many clients find it hard to believe that acupuncture is painless.  During treatment different sensations may be experienced including warmth, pressure or an energetic tingling.  Although these sensations may be unfamiliar, they are pleasant and relaxing.

Acupuncture stimulates the release of endorphins, the body's natural pain relieving substances.

Acupuncture does not interfere with existing Western medical drug therapies.  Acupuncture enhances the natural healing tendencies and allows the body to more easily incorporate the functioning of the pharmaceuticals, lessening the impact of possible adverse side effects.
