About Our Nursery

Our nursery is located on the Windward slopes of Maui's most significant geographic feature Mt. Haleakala.  At an elevation of 1400 feet, we enjoy moderate daytime temperatures, tradewind showers and cool mountain breezes; certainly these are ideal conditions, enabling us to grow only the highest quality orchid plants.  These conditions also make it possible for us to grow a very wide variety of warm as well as intermediate and cool growing orchid species and hybrids.

Prior to moving our business to Maui, we were located in Brooklyn, New York where we grew our plants in the house for 15 years before building a greenhouse.  This became a valuable lesson in growing since orchid culture for home growing is vastly different from growing in a greenhouse environment.  We grow all our plants under much shadier conditions than normally recommended so that they will adjust to indoor growing more readily.  Most plants do not need vast amounts of sun to give good quality blooms.

We maintain our own in-house orchid laboratory where we propogate our own species and hybrids.  Our intensive hybridizing program is tailored specifically for ease in growing and blooming under low light conditions and is based on over 40 years of growing experience. 

Since moving to Maui in 1998, we have expanded our greenhouse to 16,000 square feet.  Our plants have thrived, and we have been fortunate to receive more than 30 American Orchid Society Awards for our orchids in New York, California, Florida and Hawaii.  We have also won the American Orchid Society Show Trophy for the Most Outstanding Orchid Exhibit at the Maui County Fair in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002.
