THE ELEMENTARY GRADES ARE MORE CHALLENGING.
 Kindergarten and the elementary grades are the foundation upon which productive lifetime educational patterns are established MARK COUNTRY DAY's program is designed to have maximum impact on academic, social and emotional growth. Activities and learning experiences intended to stimulate intellectual curiosity and challenge creative instincts are meshed with a comprehensive core curriculum to assure that each child has the basic tools needed to become an informed adult and responsible citizen.
Rich in creative hands-on experiences, the full-day Kindergarten program is designed to nurture in each child a true love of learning. The curriculum embodies programs in reading, language arts, writing, math, social studies, science, music, art physical education and computer studies.
 A highly-qualified staff of N.Y.S. certified professionals focuses on each child's social, emotional and intellectual needs. A low student/teacher ratio permits individual and small group instruction in all academic areas and guarantees personal attention to each child.
Children are ability-grouped in reading and math to allow for individual rates of development. The reading program teaches the excitement of the printed word through a combination of phonics, visual and auditory discrimination, linguistics and comprehension skills. Math concepts include addition, subtraction, time, measurement, simple geometry, money and fractions, to name but a few.
Language arts emphasize creative writing, poetry, listening skills, oral expression, grammar and word usage. Units on electricity, weather, plants, animals, water, air and the solar system make scientific discovery come to life. The study of communities, occupations, transportation and maps underscores the interrelationship of people around the world. Weekly current events help children reach beyond their immediate surroundings. Computer education introduces the children to the rudiments of this all-important technology while specially selected computer software reinforces basic skills. Trips, special programs, dramatics, and schoolwide projects enhance the curriculum and heighten the excitement of learning.
