Quality Education
Philosophy A child's self image is the most important factor in the learning process. A child must perceive that he is an individual whose thoughts, feelings, and emotions are significant and worthwhile. Through repeated experiences in seeking, doing, and achieving, a child derives a sense of self-esteem and a feeling of competence that breeds success.
Each child is unique in his mental capacities, emotions, skills, and interests. Learning experiences must be adapted to the needs of each individual child.
Play is vital to a child's learning. It is the medium for self - expression and the way each child organizes and makes sense of the world. To play is to invent, to hypothesize, to test, and to discover. Play teaches an understanding of how to share, cooperate, and feel with others, building inter-personal trust and emotional maturity.
Program
Miss Bloomingdale's Academy offers a program which includes experiences in language development, science, mathematics, reading readiness, music, art, a second language (usually Spanish), care and enjoyment of animals, and physical motor skills. The combination of all these experiences will contribute to the development of the "whole" child--his cognitive, physical, social, and emotional needs.
The curriculum focuses on helping children develop problem-solving skills, become critical observers of their environment, and active agents in their own education. Activities are carefully planned to help the child derive a sense of self-esteem and motivation for future learning. Of special note, Miss Bloomingdale's Academy offers swimming lessons on the campus as well as computer education beginning at two years of age.
