AHERA Designated Person

The U.S. EPA requires every local education authority to have an individual responsible to ensure compliance with the ‘Asbestos in Schools Rule’: the designated person. Instruction includes an over view of asbestos materials, usage, regulations, inspection requirements, record keeping and Management Plan requirements.

AHERA Asbestos Operations & Maintenance
[16 hours / 2 days]
EPA/AHERA required training for those who perform maintenance work that impacts less than three feet of asbestos materials. Instruction includes: personal protection, special work practices, special cleaning, decontamination, waste management and hands-on activities. Exam: 50 multiple-choice questions.

AHERA Asbestos Awareness
[2 hours]
The U.S. EPA requires that all school maintenance and custodial staff receive asbestos awareness training within sixty days of hire. Subjects covered include: Background (history and uses of asbestos), health effects associated with asbestos exposure, information on location and use, damage/contamination recognition. This training is for persons who may contact, but not do disturb asbestos containing materials, or who may clean up existing contamination.
