HOW DO CHIROPRACTORS TREAT DISK PROBLEMS?

HOW DO CHIROPRACTORS TREAT DISK PROBLEMS?

Conservatively and gently.
Just as any other health problem, each disk problem is different and thus requires its own specific measures to be prescribed by the attending chiropractic doctor. Treatment usually involves chiropractic spinal manipulation to relieve pressure and irritation on the disks and nerves and may include appropriate modalities to help the supporting structures return to normal.
Diagnosis of disk syndrome and its effective treatment are fundamental to chiropractic principles. In a case where surgery or other care is indicated, the chiropractor would so advise the patient.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF DISK TROUBLE?

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF DISK TROUBLE?

Some disk trouble symptoms and some other back trouble symptoms are similar. For example, intense pain along the sciatic nerve (down the leg) can come from disk trouble, from spinal misalignments or from any of a variety of internal problems. Only a thorough spinal examination will reveal for sure whether the problem is disk failure or something else.
PAIN IS #1
In disk problems, pain-usually significant pain-is universally the #1 symptom. It Call range from a dull ache to a sharp pain usually in the low back, sometimes branch- ing into the buttocks and down the leg, often as far as the foot. Movement may intensify the pain, although some- times the pain is already so bad it can hardly get worse.
Other common symptoms are numbness, tingling, or "pins and needles" feelings in the legs. And there are other lesser symptoms. But pain is usually significant and calls for a chiropractic examination without delay. Many severe disk problems got that way through neglect in their early stages.

WHAT IS A SLIPPED DISK?

WHAT IS A SLIPPED DISK?

As one of their primary tasks, spinal disks separate and cushion adjacent vertebrae from one another. Made of high- ly specialized tissues and averaging about one-half inch in thickness, disks normally function flawlessly for their owner's lifetime.
But sometimes a disk herniates or bulges and presses or pinches spinal nerves. This condition is commonly called slipped disk, bulging disk, blown disk, protruding disk, and the like, and is usually marked by pain, often excruciating pain.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT AUTO ACCIDENTS THAT MAKE WHIPLASH LIKELY?

WHAT IS IT ABOUT AUTO ACCIDENTS THAT MAKE WHIPLASH LIKELY?

Some symptoms may show immediately or within a few hours following a whiplash injury. But damaged, injured tissues often degenerate slowly, so symptoms sometimes don't develop for several days. Sometimes several weeks go by. And occasionally, months elapse before symptoms present themselves.
GET CHIROPRACTIC EXAM IMMEDIATELY
That's why a whiplash victim should get a thorough chi- ropractic examination as soon as possible after the accident to determine the extent of the injury before it gets worse. Due to their unique expertise in recognizing and treating structural problems, chiropractors are able to give whiplash injuries special attention and care.

WE HEAR A GREAT DEAL ABOUT THE BENEFITS OF GOOD POSTURE, BUT DOES POSTURE REALLY HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH ONE'S HEALTH?

WE HEAR A GREAT DEAL ABOUT THE BENEFITS OF GOOD POSTURE, BUT DOES POSTURE REALLY HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH ONE'S HEALTH?

No doubt about it. By putting constant stress on the back's muscles, ligaments, and the spine itself including the disks, poor posture is a major cause of backache, back pain, back problems, and other health problems.
Lack of spinal balance typifies poor posture and shows up as stooped and unlevel shoulders, sunken chest, pot belly, limited spinal movement, swayback, and unlevel pelvis.
Spinal balance usually means good posture and con- tributes very positively to one's good health and appear- ance, and goes a long way in helping prevent back pain.

WHAT ABOUT BACK PAIN THAT SEEMS TO STRIKE WITHOUT NOTICE?

WHAT ABOUT BACK PAIN THAT SEEMS TO STRIKE WITHOUT NOTICE?

Accidents and falls of various kinds often bring on back pain and trouble. That's to be expected. What surprises and frustrates people are those "instant" back pain episodes that seem to strike without warning like a bolt from the blue.
You bend over to tie your shoe-or pick up the baby-and WHAM-you can't straighten up.
Such back pain may appear to be instant, but instead is often the culmination of a series of minor repetitive, accu- mulated, overuse spinal stresses which were barely noticed until the day of reckoning...like the straw that broke the camel's back.
Other contributors to back pain and trouble-usually accumulated also-include muscle spasms and strains;
weak abdominal and back muscles; minor spinal fixations, misalignments, and derangements; minor imbalances;
minor genetic imperfec- tions; and other minor structural problems.
Not always-but most of the time-those minor biomechanical problems send out subtle signals indi- cating that back trouble is brewing. The warning sig- nals are often weak, so you need to "be on the lookout for them.
